I saw Wayne walking down the road without a shirt on.

It was a sizzling hot day in the village, and he looked exhausted.

Wayne suffers with alcohol addiction, which likely made him somewhat dehydrated, and that can be problematic in high heat.

He approached me and asked if I had some change so he could buy a bottle of water.

Like many of us, I don’t carry money these days, except for a twenty dollar bill for ‘cash emergencies’.

This was an emergency if I ever saw one.

I gave him the bill, he thanked me, and headed towards the Convenience Store.

The store also carries beer, and yes, it crossed my mind what Wayne would buy, but I’m sure he quenched his thirst that day.

Now that we’ve established rapport, the next time I see Wayne, I may tell him about Jesus, the source of living water who quenches all of our spiritual thirst.

‘Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. John 7:38
