Do You Mind ?

Since you are a writer, I believe that you, like me, like learning new things.

The other day I was researching how many times the word ‘brain’ appears in the Bible.

I was surprised that it does not appear at all !

This is because, during Biblical times, people believed that thoughts, feelings and emotions originated in the heart, which is mentioned 826 times.

However, the word ‘mind’ is mentioned 96 times, and we are told in Matthew 22:37, to love God with our ‘heart, soul, and mind’.

So then, I thought I would do a casual study on where the mind is located.

This was no simple study ! Instead, this question has interested numerous philosophers and scientists, including Plato, Descartes, and Freud, for thousands of years.

The mind, according to some research, is located partly, but not entirely, in the brain.

I thought I should spend some more time researching this, but I changed my mind. The amount of information was ‘mind-boggling’.

Local strawberries are in season now, so I thought I would make a strawberry shortcake instead.

Pictured is Rosa Rugosa, also called ‘Beach Rose’, in the garden.

These plants are amazingly resilient, and have a beautiful fragrance.

  1. Well , a good idea and yes , part of the mind in the heart as well as the brain …
The heart is also I think is related to the intuitive mind that , according to Einstein, should guide the rational mind…
There is song that says :” listen to your heart…”

      1. πŸ•πŸ˜ You got me thinking strawberry shortcake! Now that’s a reality I can handle or wrap my head around, and, put into my mouth for sure! β€œDon’t sweat the small stuff” they say; and I say, that’s right; I’ll just eat it! πŸ˜œπŸ€—πŸŒ·

    1. This is why they talk about gut feelings but I think separation is an illusion and all are interconnected with the universe in oneness of being…
We are the universe and the universe is us…

      1. Yes, the gut contains similar cells to the brain, and is often called : ‘the second brain’. Recent research by Dr. Armour has found that the heart also contains neurons, which are cells found in the brain. 😁

      2. Yes it all comes from the same beginning but a multitude of paths lead to very different destinations! We are all unique individuals for a reason and we are not the author of the universe nor its Creator, so we are captive to purpose regardless of what we think or decide is best for us we will be held accountable for all of our actions and thoughts, we will be the sum total of our lives and what we did with them. All will receive in accordance with what their heart was composed of and get the just reward.

      3. We are the creators of our lives in different ways and we are given some reincarnations to be given the chances to transform and evolve …

      4. I know of only one proven path that leads to righteousness and everlasting happiness, and as this is my life my one chance, and Jesus Christ is the only being that can lay claim to what he said and did, actually proving that He is the Way the Path and the Life! It’s not complicated after all, like Dad always said, β€œlife is very simple but people make it complicated for themselves and others!”

      5. All the ways lead to Rome … I think all religions and spiritual paths lead us to the divine love …
I don’t have to prove anything to anybody because the only absolute reality is God being all that is …
All come from God and return to God …

  3. Hahaha (Don’t mind me…) Yes, Lawrence, you are right, the ‘stomach’
is definitely connected to the brain. Similar cells are contained in both areas.
We know also how the stomach can respond to stress.

There is quite a bit of research available in this area. 😁🌷

      1. It is good to communicate with like-minded individuals.
It is best not to be narrow-minded. πŸ€—πŸ˜ Some people are open-minded, others are close-minded. πŸ€—πŸŒ·

      2. Open Minded can be an abstruse and disastrous Liberal concept that leads to folly, vanity and worse; destruction! I need to only be as open minded as God instructs me to be by His holy spirit and the belief in His Son the only path to God! That is my mission while on earth which is to serve the Lord my God with all my heart and all my strength, believing in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ the Lord and Savior, and, that none come to the Father but by Him alone! 13 β€œEnter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.” Matthew 7:13-14 πŸ€—πŸŒ·

      3. Yes, I agree ! Let us follow the words of Isaiah, who tells us that the Lord will grant peace to those whose minds are stayed on him. πŸ€—πŸŒ·

  4. Hi Sally. The mind is a wonderful thing. Just studying the brain years ago made me realize how much. In fact, the experts still don’t understand it fully… We need to fill this mind with the Word of God so that the heart can be filled too, then our mouths will overflow of God’s wonders. “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
    Isaiah 26:3 KJV

I think you chose the better study, baking, rather than struggling to understand the mysterious… Thanks for sharing.
    God bless you

    1. Thanks, Derrick. I so much enjoy the roses in your fabulous garden.
The Rosa Rugosa bush roses, which I pictured in this post, are the only variety that will thrive this close to the sea. I enjoy the scent of roses so much. πŸŒ·πŸ€—

  5. Great study you’re working on Sally! The brain and heart I think are definitely connected with the mind, perhaps even the stomach, something I never considered before. Well, since I’m feeling a bit better today it must be time for my walk. Have a great day Sally!πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜ΊπŸŒž

  6. Hi Sally, strawberry shortcake sounds like a wonder-full idea. Yes, I recall you and I talking about the mind before. I have empathy for many who struggle with thoughts that aren’t pleasing to God, myself included. I am thankful sanctification is a lifelong process. Oh and thank you for prayers for my papers. God is faithful and saw me through. I may not get A+, but He really opened my spiritual eyes to see some new things in the process. Have a beauty-full weekend dear Sally.
