Lessons From a “Bubbler”

Do you have any ways of making the cold dark winters of the Northern Hemisphere a little more pleasant ?

This year we bought a little machine which we affectionately call ‘the Bubbler’, because when it runs , it makes a gentle bubbling sound like a little running stream, and it sounds super relaxing ! Cold winters can be stressful, and this reminds us of Spring.

It’s actual name is the Saje Om Diffuser. It can be used to diffuse aromatherapy oils into the air, but we just use it as a little humidifier, to make the indoor air less dry and more comfortable in the winter.

“The Bubbler” also creates a beautiful vapour, which is very soothing and comforting to watch. It reminds me of James 4:14 which reminds us that God compares our lives to mists or vapours. That verse reminds me to value every moment, for God has carefully planned our days, and he is delighted when we trust him completely.

I was having a wonderful moment last night. There was a beautiful sunset, the ‘Bubbler’ was making its gentle relaxing sound , and I thought of one of my favourite verses from St. Teresa of Avila:

‘Let nothing disturb you; let nothing frighten you.

All things are passing. God never changes.

He, or she who has God has everything.

God alone suffices.’

  1. Great Idea and a beautiful verse to reflect on Sally. I never heard of or heard the sound of Bubbler, but think this is a great idea and now I want one. The closest thing I can remember enjoying that was producing such a soothing subtle sound would be long ago when I had an aquarium which would have a gentle relaxing effect on me as I watched and listened to the aeration pump in the tank. Thank you for this great idea to try out! 😊 🙏 ❤

    1. Hi Lawrence : You reminded me that “The Bubbler sounds like the aeration pump that we used to have on our aquariums, they made a bubbling sound two.
I find that small things can help when the cold seems to drag on.
“The Bubbler” is the nickname that we have given to the little machine- it’s real name is the Saje Om Diffuser. I find the sound very soothing, and the water vapour is nice to watch.
Good to hear from you. ! 🤗

    2. Hi Lawrence :
Hi, it seems that I have renamed the little thing, “Bubbler” is my name for it – it’s real name is “Saje Om Diffuser”. It gets dry with electric heat in the house, and this adds a little moisture, and the vapour it creates is nice.
I’ve spent years, both professionally and personally, researching things that soothe the nervous system.
One of the big things for me is the colour of my personal space. Most of our house is painted white, and has nothing on the walls.
But in my room , I chose a colour that an artist friend recommended to me. It is a green grey colour, very earth toned. His studio is painted in this colour, and according to him ,the colour soothes the nervous system. I like it.
Lighting is also a big thing for me. If there are stores or buildings with fluorescent lights, these really bother me, as they do a lot of people.
I bought a Himalayan salt lamp this year. It creates a beautiful soft warm light.
There are many other things I do, which soothe the nervous system. For example, I don’t wear clothing with prints or patterns on it. Solid colours, make me happier.
We can do much to change our perspective. Cooking calms me too, but only if I can take my time cooking. Rushing is my number one stress for sure !
I am fascinated by the numerous small blessings that God sends us always. God is pleased when we notice his small blessings.
We have had one seagull, named Miss Scott, who has come to visit us every Spring and Summer since 2017. She is very tame. This week we noticed that she is back, for the fourth year. She is territorial, and enjoys our treats.
By concentrating on the multitudes of small blessings everywhere, we focus less on the nasty things in the world. Jesus always wants us to enjoy the abundant life.
We visited the home of St. Catherine of Siena a few years ago. I remember the powerful words she wrote : “All the way to heaven is heaven”.🤗

      1. Hi Sally, all good points you bring up for sure, and I like the “Bubbler” name best because it even sounds relaxing or entertaining in my way of looking at it; diffuser sounds too scientific or technical; and I wish to separate from technology to be quite honest, if I want to be in a place of solitude. The rushing around pace out there in the hectic manmade jungle and then on top of that dealing with some of the nasty people around these days is horrible for the nerves. Recently I was driving with my dog in the vehicle and I was going along a secondary highway and changed lanes because the car in front was driving slower than the posted speed and I sensed the driver was preoccupied with something and an accident looking for a place to happen. I’ve driven commercial semi’s around a million miles over the years as an in-between job or then as a steady one working 15 hour days and gained a lot of quick reaction to all that’s going on driving down the very dangerous highways. So this car that I passed by wasn’t the real problem because no sooner had I changed lanes when the car in front of me who I know saw me change lanes starting slowing down intentionally so I actually knew I’d be best to get back in the right lane if this younger woman driver maybe 25 to 30 was going to start doing something for some off the wall reason, maybe thinking she is the traffic police because she is so adept at being a word police sort online all of her life practically! Once I was in the right lane again I noticed that traffic was building up ahead and I would have to be turning before long so I put on the left turn signal and started to move into the left or passing lane and wouldn’t you know it the lady not far behind decided no I can’t get in that lane so she zoomed up almost causing our vehicles to collide but again my quick reflexes and driving skills prevented an accident which she was about to and actually would have caused, but the abrupt maneuver tossed my poor dog around nearly injuring her! I have to say I’ve seen over the recent years many more female aggressive and even crazy drivers out on the roads and I’m so glad I don’t bother taking any long haul work anymore even though I could its totally not worth it at all! But, what is going on with people, you have to take pause and wonder what will that younger woman be heading toward in her future behaving that way and if she lives long enough what state of mind and what will her nerves be like when she is old and miserable! Not good is all I can say, but I bring all of this out to say I hope any of your readers and anyone who happens along that you please take Sally’s advice here and get practicing this as a routine to calm because the world is such a reactionary and mixed-up place these days and nobody can survive long or healthily if they don’t take ownership of their own emotional state. I add that everyone should follow the cardinal rule that I lived by as a commercial driver that is and must always be, “Safety First and Foremost,” that is how I drove all those miles and had zero accidents because the responsibility and damage that could be caused was and is enormous! “We visited the home of St. Catherine of Siena a few years ago. I remember the powerful words she wrote: “All the way to heaven is heaven.” Absolutely Sally, but only if a person will have the proper perspective and does some work to keep it all balanced.
        God Bless.🤗

      2. Wow ! Lawrence , I have tremendous admiration for drivers who can drive commercial semis ! Such an awesome responsibility requiring great spatial and mechanical skills. Luckily your pup was not injured in the incident you describe. I seldom drive here. I did drive, of course, in Toronto, and it was hectic then and has gotten more hectic.
I usually walk everywhere around town. There are no stop lights here. This summer I am hoping to get one of those old fashioned bikes with a basket on the front. I walk to the grocery store too, except when it has been so cold . You are so lucky to have a dog. Pets are super loving and help make our lives so much more pleasurable. We have been looking around now for kennels that might have litters of Golden Retriever puppies available in the Spring.
I am resting now. The “Bubbler” is bubbling, the Himalayan salt lamp is casting a warm gentle light, and the ocean is perfectly silent. The Lord is with us, always.

      3. 🤗 WOW, Sally what a peaceful and Godly space to be in right now as you described it! That is the elixir of life without a doubt nothing in any bottle or package can do what you are doing right now with your stark natural real surroundings. God Bless.
Walking is the big takeaway for me here as you know I walk quite a bit every chance I get and last weekend the spiritual walk with Jesus was real and so beneficial on all levels but also a miraculous walk, my Salivation became so pronounced and brought into focus by that walk, and Jesus Christ was holding my hand the whole way teaching me and revealing Himself! God bless you and your husband for the wonderful work and good you are doing all of the time. That semi work was at times highly stressful and other times a challenging adventure too! I actually enjoyed it under the right conditions mostly in the overnight hours with much less of the concerns with the hectic, rushed, congested or grid lock traffic of the normal business hours. But, like I said now it wouldn’t even be worth it to take a cross country trip or even local, not worth all the aggravation and danger the way it was only about a dozen years ago. I still have the CDL, but that hat I hung it up, and figure it was nice while it lasted! Good evening and God Bless You on the finding of a new puppy that will be a perfect match for all! 🤗
Oh by the way I love the part you wrote about Miss Scott, I too would track the return of some birds in my immediate area each year and many squirrels I had an up close and personal relationship with them as I still do but now not quite as good as before! I had one named Winkie which I’ve told you about in my writing before but those memories mean a lot to me and will never fade!

      4. I like when you described when you were walking with Jesus. He loves to reveal himself to us, and desires a deep friendship with each of us. There is also much hiking out here, Lawrence, we loved walking with Paris along rugged trails where one can see glorious icebergs, whales jumping, and also eagles. And, of course there is no pollution here, and the salty fresh air is exhilarating. 🤗

      5. 🤗 I guess we could say the best walking we ever do or will is when we walked with Jesus and acknowledge His presence the whole time. The hiking and grandiose mighty presence is around you there all of the time, while you can commune quietly with His majesty. All that nature and fresh salty air when I had my initial respiratory trauma would have been a major healing factor. Still it could be doing some healing in many other ways in the future; just have to take one day at a time and let the Lord lead the way. Thanks Sally!

      8. Thank you for that Sally, very kind of you! And yes, the older I’ve gotten the more I finally realized that what you said here was always true; and I like many people needed to come to the full-realization that He was incessantly calling out to me to be still more and listen carefully to His plea! He is the only one that knows what is best for each of us, loving each of us beyond imagination or human understanding!
You have a wonderful evening. 🤗

      9. Thanks, Lawrence ! It has been almost Spring-like here today – Scottie our “pet” seagull has been here twice already ! She is easy to recognize because she is huge, almost the size of a small eagle – she enjoys our treats!
Yes, each of us are God’s beloved creations, and the more we have been wounded by others, the closer the friendship, and the healing that Jesus promises us.
There are two books, besides the Bible, that changed my life dramatically.
One is “The Practise of the Presence of God”, written by Brother Lawrence, a 16th Century Monk who worked in a kitchen.
The other little book is “Jesus Calling”, by Sarah Young. This is a book of daily devotions that I’ve been reading every day for years. A dear friend gave me this book.
Only a few more days until Spring ! Newfoundlanders are feeling cheerful, as the days lengthen. Blessings 🤗

      10. Hi Sally! Yes the weather is improving I would imagine dramatically there, and here it’s been reasonably nice for the last few weeks but tonight it will dip down below freezing and be a bit nippy through the weekend but by Tuesday it springs up to mid-50’s to low 60’s possibly! It really is starting to feel like spring is about here already. Scottie must be a lovely sweet seagull and I’m sure she knows you and your husband well and loves to stop by and spend some time there with you. Such a beautiful sight as I picture it and I actually love seagulls myself; had to rescue a few of them over the years. Once doing some semi driving work I found one near the terminal building between a couple of loading docks that had some fishing line wrapped around one of its legs which had cut off blood supply and the leg was just dangling oozing with infection and the bird was very weak or emaciated on its last wing and a prayer actually. It still didn’t want anyone messing with it out of fear because some other employees around the area had tried getting near it and though it couldn’t fly anymore but could just get slightly airborne it kept managing to get away from them all. Then I came along and said I’ll get it would be going home after I dropped the trailer and refueled the tractor and because I knew this wildlife rehab organization was in the area about 30 miles away and I know a couple of the ladies that ran it pretty well I was in the right place at the right time to help. So I got the bird to the wildlife folks early that morning where they then determined he needed to have the leg amputated and be given time to heal and get back his strength! With some TLC a few weeks later he was doing so well he was ready to be released to a long sand spit that jutted out in the ocean making for a nice isolated landing strip for birds to be away from land predators and it was at a well-known bird migratory zone so plenty of food options and safer for a one legged bird to acclimate and live out a good life. One of the ladies that rehabs the birds had actually had another seagull with the same issues and that one did great so when our little fine featured friend was ready for release it was a joy to see him fly out around the point and then come back and land with other birds on the spit and he seemed like he was actually a trooper with just one leg able to get around well enough and having full flight capability he got a second chance! Now I have to say I wasn’t actually thinking about getting into this sidetrack about seagulls but I really do love them and it just took over. The thing that immediately captured my attention in your comment was Brother Lawrence and his writing who I actually never heard of and this was very intriguing to me, so I actually got to think about him a bit looking him up here as I was telling you about the seagull, and now I want to read about his beautiful methodology of communing with God continually from a very basic simple focus and complete openness with due diligence, being able to know His presence first hand and in the way that God allows one to manifest a very close relationship with Him in what I would call a state of attuned connection with the Holy Spirit moment to moment, sort of being on the same frequency, by being free and trusting through genuine belief that He will talk to you if you are willing to let yourself go and allow Him to lead by trusting Him by faith alone. But you know Sally both you and I do this because now I know we were meant to converse and little special dots are being connected as we do just like this, whereby you told me about this fascinating Monk Lawrence that I’m so inspired to read about now, and will get this book of his. So, as always God is in control and we are continually being guided and molded to suit His purposes for each of us and if we pay attention and are willing to let Him lead the way it will become all the more apparent as we move forward. I’ll see about getting a copy of his book tomorrow and will be sure to let you know what I think as I read it! Thank you for letting me know this and being where God wanted you to be in your thinking as well as faith, which is what it’s all about!
God bless you and yours. 🤗
Have a good evening and see you later.
        Brother in Christ Jesus,
        Lawrence

      11. Hi Lawrence !
It was very moving to read about the seagull that you brought to the wildlife centre. That was such a tender thing to do for one of God’s helpless beloved creatures. The ladies who work at the centre must be very compassionate too.
I also really agree when you said that when ‘we are on the same frequency with the Holy Spirit.’…this comes with trusting God completely, and believing that he has a purpose for everything he allows into our lives. Often we don’t understand what he is doing.
I have an older Catholic friend who believes it is only appropriate to pray for “big things”, like world peace. But I was gently explaining to her that God is interested in helping us in every aspect of our lives.
For example : I needed a new winter coat, and I knew exactly the kind of coat I had in mind. So I prayed well in advance for that coat. The store is on the main Street of St. John’s, a very busy street ! However, by the time we got there, “there just happened to be” a parking spot in front of the door, with money in the meter. I entered the store, and saw the coat I had visualized on the rack. It tried it on, it fit perfectly, and we were soon out the door. The coat is a black knee length cashmere coat that has kept me warm for 10 winters and still looks brand-new. God is good. He loves us, and desires to give us the abundant life that Jesus promised us. 🤗

      12. 🤗 Hi Sally! Absolutely true what you’ve said here and I couldn’t say it better! I’ve had the same type of experience you had with finding the coat you needed and even pulling up to a building in the capital where I needed to file court documents to meet a deadline and there as I drove up seeing the entire area was jammed packed with vehicles, even the small pay lots across the street, there was this one space that someone must have just drove away from before I approached it, as it turns out it was paid up for more than a couple of hours, and if I had not been right there at that precise moment and had to drive around the block it would have meant with certainty the space would have been taken again. But the one that was coming to mind just now was how one winter how I had put some wet cloths in the dryer and right after I started it the interior drum seized up causing the unit to pop a breaker switch from the electrical overload. This was a dryer my dad had given to me as he had been directly involved working for a major manufacturer for many years, and even though I knew this old one was something I was just trying to hold onto when it really was time to get a new one now; I was forced to do something. I prayed to Jesus and then told myself I’ve held off long enough and I have to head on over to a major home center to pick something out. This was early in the day so little did I know everything was coming together in just the right way as it was being directed by our heavenly Father I believe. When I got to the store I asked God to help me find the same brand but a sale or some reasonable offer as prices were much more now since the days when I was given the now broken worn out unit from my dad. When I saw the sticker prices I thought oh my God so much money and thought how it would be so nice to find the same brand on sale that my dad had given to me but I could see that the only practical thing to do would be to buy the lowest priced model regardless of brand one without any bells to whistles for sure! I had my dog with me as they are allowed in there, on a leash of course. So I thought I had one picked out and went to a service desk area in that department with my dog happily leading the way and found a store clerk who checked to see if it was in stock which it wasn’t as that model was being discontinued and replaced with a newer style unit. I asked if they could deliver something to my home that same day as I may just want to pick out a higher priced model if they could and the clerk said yes if you hold on for a moment I’ll check to see if the delivery employees are still setting up the route and deliveries for the day. The gentleman ended the phone call and said yes, if you were to pick something out quickly I can guarantee it will be delivered and installed today otherwise tomorrow! I told the man great let me go look things over again quick and then as I went to turn away with my dog to retrace our footsteps back to the same display area my dog had moved to the other side of where I was standing with her and so I took a slightly different path around a big enclosed counter and some crated refrigerators and suddenly right in front of me was a brand new white clothes dryer the same brand as my dad had given to me many years earlier which was a top of the line model with all the bells and whistles which I would not ever consider buying not because I can’t afford it but only because I was being practical and thrifty like my dad and I almost want to cry, (got teary eyed now), when I remember what happened. I immediately turned around and went back to the clerk and asked what is that white dryer sitting around those refrigerators doing there it has no tags or anything on it, and he said, “oh that one the guys that do the delivery work just rolled that out from the back because a woman had ordered the unit yesterday and she needs a special hookup, so the transaction was cancelled and they brought that one back late yesterday afternoon and left it in the back; until now.” I went ohh; then hold on how much is that one isn’t that a very expensive model and he said, well it is one of the top end models but it’s being bargain priced to move it out of the store quickly, it has to be considered used but it really isn’t.” Something with store policy and warranty, and I asked him then what is the price and it turned out to be the same price of the inexpensive model I was originally wanting to buy that was discontinued, and I mean the same price with normal full warranty and it could be delivered that day if I was interested. I said yes sir lets right it up I want that one, and sure enough I got a deal to beat all deals that you just can’t find even if you try unless it’s a damaged unit or obsolete; this was top of the line best on the showroom floor and I got it! I was so happy and thankful to God for being too good to me, because I kept saying to God on the way to the store that morning please help me find one that is a good reliable same brand as the one dad gave me all those years ago and at a reasonable price is all I ask Lord!
Isn’t God so loving and wonderfully kind to us even in such little matters that have nothing to do with what is happening in the global arena!
        Thanks again Sally! 🤗
I know you appreciate that beautiful warm coat every time you put it on and think how it came to you!

      13. Hi Lawrence !
Thank-you for sharing the excellent stories about finding the right parking spot, and how you got that amazing drier ! And how nice that they let your dog come into the store. These are wonderful examples of “God- incidences”. For the Christian, there are no co-incidences, since God orders our steps. He cares about every detail of our lives.
I just experienced a God-incidence today. I needed to have routine lab tests done as part of regular maintenance. But I have been procrastinating, because it is usually really busy in the lab/hospital, but today , when I summoned some self control to go there, there was no one waiting ! I was in and out of there in 15 minutes. Often though, it is easy for me to take many things for granted. Like, having a washer, having clothes, having water, etc. We are highly blessed.
Hope that you have an excellent day today. What is your dog’s name ? 🤗

      14. I agree Sally there are no co-incidences my dad was always saying that to us when we were kids! He would say strengthen your faith and God will be leading the way always! I have to admit the practical side of my thinking which I did have reinforced y my parents growing up, regarding a simple decision of picking a clothes dryer would prohibit me from buying such an expensive one, and the main reason it took me so long holding off on getting the new one when I knew the old one was finished too; by the many years of heavy use and I really was holding on to something dad gave to me out of love as it had been a big surprise when he showed up with some men making a delivery of that dryer and new kitchen appliances many years ago! My dad’s heart was always so loving and generous to his children, and even others in how he treated then in personal or business practices, he was always respected for being so conscientious and had such integrity in all of his business dealings or work. What a cool God incidence; to have actually today when here we were on topic and so spot-on about what is going on with our daily lives attuned to our heavenly Father through our faith in Jesus Christ our Lord! You see, you even confirmed these tiny yet greatly significant miracles that are happening in our lives moment by moment by having your incidence today at the precise time when God led the way and all of these dots were being connected by us His children and servants doing His will on earth as it is in heaven! Peace Love and Harmony is all from Him our Savior! I love how your visit to the lab went so smoothly and amazingly quickly, in order to provide you all the comfort and ease you deserve! Oh yes, I have learned more as I get older how blessed we are these days even though so much bad occurs around the globe we have amazing blessings handed to us and all of these conveniences that we can easily take for granted are such a precious gift. Life can be tough and it does humble a soul to accept the reality of how lost we are without God and this life will amount to nothing unless we have Him in our hearts leading us away from darkness and despair into everlasting happiness and the paradise our Father wants for us all, if we will only listen to Him. My dad here on earth helped so much in my becoming aware of this wisdom and truth, while our Father in heaven is affirming it daily!
You have a nice evening, and my dogs name came with her when I saved her life again through a God incidence and that name she had been given stayed with her when she came to live with me, Penny. 🤗

      15. Hi Lawrence – You have been blessed by having loving parents who guided you in your faith and showed you what sincere Christianity is about. My dad was a man of great integrity too. Having loving earthly fathers makes it easy to accept that our heavenly father only wants the best for us. I have experienced some devastating things, but I have learned to accept them as things that God allowed for my ultimate sanctification.
Sounds like Penny is a lovely companion. I remember you describing how she is pampered and enjoys a good diet. 🤗

      16. Hi Sally..was about to head into the kitchen and make up some multicolored peppers with onions on Italian bread topped off with melted provolone cheese sandwiches, and saw a new message here so jumped to it. Yes our parents are never perfect and some have much better ones than others but the one thing that is most important as you well know is that parents instill faith in their children and show by example a commitment to live a humble loving life seeking to be a servant of the Lord. Both my parents had that approach to life so it obviously in my case helped me tremendously to have a leg up as it were to see the light at a young age but I still know i could have done better too, because I think being in the generations that had a little too much and took for granted things we ought not have that led to making some dumb mistakes and wasting time. I and my siblings were so blessed to have such good parents but like I said we younger folks messed up and caused ourselves some serious headaches anyway. God in the end result can use that to help as you said to bring our own individual, ultimate sanctification!
Oh you are so right also about Penny and being an earthly companion that God created well in advance of this whole world having it planned out so we have them as our little animal friends! I feel this way about wildlife too but of course I keep an arm’s length usually with them even though I have fed squirrels peanuts out of my hand and felt their little claws pinch my skin gently as they took the treat. I’m not sure but you may have missed a very short blog about my dog and this will make certain if you did that you get the bit of background on how she came to me. She does eat like a queen!
Thank you for all the help and interest!

      17. Hi Sally! Thank you so much for having the interest in Penny and sending out all of the good thoughts you do! Yes, she was a very confused panic stricken animal when I came along that was about to have her life taken away by a too busy not always caring world, but God gave her a chance by allowing me and Penny to act as a message of “Salvation and Hope” when God brought us together, so in time that example would be observed or even duplicated through the hearts and minds of others that hear about her story! God gave me a chance to serve as an instrument to that end appreciating life and every little blessing even more through Penny, because having her as a friend has actually changed me for the better too! God’s power and infinite love is at work all around us and that is where our attention should be focused as much as we possibly can.

Keeping our focus on the Lord changes us and comforts us. It was a beautiful act of generosity to adopt Penny, and give her such a pampered life.
There is an old hymn whose words comfort me :

        Turn your eyes upon Jesus,
Look full in his wonderful face,
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim,
In the light of his glory and grace.
Hope that you have an excellent day today !
We are on Polar Bear Watch now.

Ice chunks from the arctic are breaking off now, and sometimes Polar Bears get stuck on them and float all the way down here.
Two years ago a Polar Bear landed here, and, enticed by the smell of Marsh’s

fried chicken, he wandered over there and scared all the customers before he was subdued by animal rescue officers and returned to his natural habitat. 😁

      19. Hi Sally! Yes these are such beautiful and comforting words, much like the focus of Brother Lawrence whom I did begin to read about in-between things today. I also had to mention that he was just brought to my attention; and early this morning I incorporated some good points about him in my Lent Offering Blog I was in the middle of writing! Thank you for the insights and inspiration you sent my way!
WOW! What a sight to see such enormous Polar Bears in the wild that way! Hopefully there will be some extra blessings sent out to the wild kingdom as they suffer like we humans too but on a guy level mostly still all the same it is sad that anything should suffer! You have a blessed day and take good care!
Make a blog article about them when you get a chance OK? I know you will have photos but not to close!!!
        God Bless All of You!
