Does your country celebrate ‘Thanksgiving Day’ ?
In Canada, this feast day is in October, while Americans officially say ‘Thank-you’, in November.
I was making breakfast yesterday when I once again realized how inadequate it is to have only one ‘official’ day to say thanks to God for all the food He provides.
Newfoundland is a ruggedly beautiful island in the Atlantic Ocean, and traditionally, the diet here consisted mainly of cod fish, root vegetables, bread, berries and tea.
With the miracle of modern transportation, the food variety available here now is fantastic.
I was thankful for juicy oranges from South Africa, avocados from Mexico, blueberries and raspberries from Peru, and organic coffee, also from Peru.
Tomorrow is cookie making day for me. Our seaside kitchen will be fragrant with the smells of vanilla and cinnamon which has come from Sri Lanka, via England.
Let us give thanks for all the food provided for us.
How does God feel when we display grateful hearts ?
He thinks that it is great !

Amen! A grateful heart is a year long endeavor!!

What a lovely reminder, Sally. I agree, one day a year is Not enough. As we clothe ourselves in His love, I think gratitude is the best accessory. Blessings!

Sally Ball, that is a lovely and appetizing display there in your photo! I just finished a large sandwich with sautΓ©ed onions red, orange and yellow European peppers with fresh herbs and spices such as parsley, garlic, turmeric and black pepper topped with slices of Provolone and Mozzarella cheeses sprinkled with Asiago and Romano, all between large center of the loaf Italian bread. I mention this because even though I’m stuffed at the moment and not having any hunger pangs this dish you present is one of my favorite light meals, appetizer or dessert arrangements and I currently have none of those ingredients but wish I did! But, I give thanks just as you for all of the variety of wonderful foods God has provided for us to enjoy and keep us healthy! Thank you for this reminder and inspiration! Happy and a Blessed Thanksgiving! Every Day!

Wow, Lawrence, that sandwich sounds yummy ! I love colourful foods, and prefer red, orange and yellow peppers rather than green ones. Excellent sandwich ! π

π Yes it is Sally, even my dog loves a few chunks for the peppers and cheese, pulling the onion out for her, not good for dogs. She eats top shelf; just last week I cooked up some Wild Caught Sockeye Salmon and Sea Scallops in a vegetable medley with herbs, spices and bread crumbs baked in a covered dish making for juicy succulent texture and mixture of flavors which I shared with her, mixed wither high grade lamb meal and rice kibble dry food. Was out walking her a couple of days later and told a woman who lives nearby who thought my dog was so healthy and young, so when I told her what she eats and just had the other day she said, “she got that too!” I take it many people hardly get that good a meal around here but my dog is eating better than them perhaps. And, you are so right about colorful foods, the chemical chains in many are extremely beneficial for optimum health! Carrots which I know you have a good supply of from what you mentioned about root vegetables are great and again me and my dog eat them all the time. I steam organic baby carrots with broccoli florets and yellow squash then mash them up for her meal to mix them in. The beta-carotene is great in them not to mention all the vitamins and minerals. But in those bright colored peppers you get Xanthophylls
Over the last few years I began to increase my intake of these chemical found in these great vegetable plant sources of which Xanthophylls are very amazing.
Xanthophylls are powerful antioxidants. I also found that they do have beneficial effect on our own bodies repairing DNA or genes either damaged through illness, poor diet and aging.
The health benefits of carotenoids cannot be overemphasized. A blood with a good amount of carotenoids has the ability to reduce and prevent Cancers, eye diseases, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, metabolic syndrome, mal-absorption and cognitive function.
βEating carotenoid-rich foods can protect the healthy cells in the eye and prevent the growth… Cardiovascular health. Carotenoids are antioxidants, lowering inflammation in the body. Antioxidants protect cells from free radicals,β

This is so interesting, Lawrence. Your dog is very fortunate. We can tell much about people by the way they treat their animals. Our Golden Retriever, Paris, loved carrots too.
Thanks for the nutritional information. Root vegetables do well here because the air is so salty that leafy vegetables don’t flourish here.
We eat a lot of carrots too. I was just looking at some new recipes today.
Always enjoy reading your comments. π

Sally, wow your Golden Paris was blessed to have you and all of you to have her! Your lifestyle and vigorous stimulating climate near the sea is beautiful as well very healthy for body, mind and spirit! I’ve said before our commentaries or posts many times converge very well. Now your mentioning Paris has touched on one of my most favorite subjects the animal kingdom and God’s creatures both great and small; dogs being my favorite and my having a deep seated affinity to them. I’ve actually not met any dog that I didn’t find some good feeling or connection with any of them, even those with an unfortunate history and that are perhaps not so warm and fuzzy, they usually are good with me. Rather than go on here I just realized I can share two of my Blogs written this year about two of my dogs, the first will be about Penny my current dog and the second is about one of her predecessors Angel. I know you are going to enjoy these stories about them, short but sweet and I feel you will get a good glimpse of them from these blogs. Thank you also for the inspiration and insights; itβs always good reading what you write too!
Actually the timing of these dogs coming up after your blog today is a God Sent!
God Bless You and Yours. πΆ π

I read the very tender and moving posts about your beloved dogs. Thanks, Lawrence for sharing. There is a beautiful bond between dog lovers and their beloved pets. Golden Retrievers have webbed feet and are excellent swimmers. Paris used to enjoy swimming in the ocean and retrieving sticks. It is God’s great blessing to us to give us beautiful animals to cherish.π€

You’re welcome Sally, and thank you for sharing as well. Animals they are so beautiful and a gift from God who has created all of this abundance and extraordinary world as His infinite expression of love. I took it as a special sign that you wrote what you did about Thanksgiving and then brought up your Golden Retriever Paris on this occasion of Giving-Thanks to God for all the blessings He bestows upon us each day. And how these thing all fit so well with what I wrote previously about my beloved dogs and how Penny began a happy life many years ago when I was inspired to seek out the beckoning call of those dogs in a shelter that fateful day this same time of year during the week of Thanksgiving, when I became Penny’s only last ray of hope and in time she gave me so much hope in return; God does work in mysterious ways and we do well to be in alignment with His Holy Spirit to do His will. Amen.
Yes Sally, these animals are a great blessing to always cherish as you did with Paris; and as I picture her just as you described, joyously fetching the stick in the ocean by the shore where you live. π€
