How do you feel when you hear the word ‘ageing’ ?
Does the thought of it scare you ? In our youth-obsessed culture, people are encouraged to battle and deny the fact that they are growing older, but this is not God’s way ! As children of a loving God, we recognize that each day is a gift, another chance to praise Him, love Him, and serve Him.
I do not like the term ‘senior citizen’. I am old, but not senior at anything.
As an old person, there are freedoms ! You discover who you really are, and your only desire is to please God. This frees you to be yourself. I was playing ‘Amazing Grace’on my flute in the backyard today. I hope God enjoyed hearing it.
Above all, old age is a time to learn from the young, for many young people have great wisdom. I quote these words from Stefan, a young blogger : “Have a blast just existing”. It is the secret of living the abundant life that the Lord has promised to all who will trust and obey.

True, “Old age isn’t for sissies.” But the wisdom that comes with it is the blessing that helps us see things the way God sees them – the way they really are! You’re right, there’s freedom in the eternal perspective. (The divine perspective. π )

The only thing that old age would make me worry about is being stuck in some home and not being able to do anything but exist. I would much prefer to be at home with Jesus.

One of my classic memories:
My father-in-law on the occasion of my mother-in-lawβs 62nd birthday: Well, Dorothy, how does it feel to be a senior citizen?
Mother-in-law: [angry as a hornet] I am NOT a senior citizen!
FIL: Well, what are you then?
MIL: [emphatically] Middle-aged!

Not at all. What I’m scared of is getting older without realizing my dreams and fulfilling God’s purpose for me. But then, only He knows…

I’m only scared of getting lifelong illness during my time. I love to grow old in good health, gracefully.. I think there is link between youthfulness and physical wellness – age is just a number.

Aging is growing in the wisdom of God. I agree that it is also a timeof freedom to grow in God.
